My Hardware

I have built this system up over the years.  It did start small and as things became cheaper (or on special) I went ahead and purchased the hardware for my lab.  You don't need to go this extreme for your own lab.  You too can start small and build your environment up.

Motherboard:

  • MSI X299 PRO

CPU:

  • Intel i9-10980XE @ 3GHz
  • 18 cores
  • 36 logical

Memory:

  • 256GB (8 x 32) DDR4 3200
  • G.Skill Ripjaws V

Graphics:

  • Nvidia GeForce GT 730

Power Supply:

  • EVGA 750 G3

Software:

  • VMware Workstation

Networking:

  • 2 x NICs (lab network and home network)
  • Meraki MX67W Security Appliance
  • Meraki MS120-8LP
  • The Meraki appliances is used to separate my lab network from my home network.  You could use anything like a PFsense box.  I do use virtualised PFsense as my gateway and routing boxes in the Lab as well
